Waterjet Cutting

MICRO Waterjet = “Waterjet cutting approaching Wire EDM precision”

The Technology

Ideally suited for machining high precision, virtually burr-free parts from "difficult-to-machine" materials, the MICRO Waterjet is transforming the small part and micro component manufacturing process from prototype to production. From brackets, shims, gaskets and spacers to gears and specialty components, the applications are endless.

With a .015” kerf it is possible to produce sharp corners, tiny holes and delicate and complex contours.

INTRICUT is the first Canadian company to offer custom MICRO Waterjet Cutting services.

Our MICRO Waterjet features

  • Advanced high precision optical linear encoders that maintain positioning accuracies of .0001”
  • Cut tolerances of .001” (0.02mm), with edge finishes in the 16Ra inch range
  • 5-axis taper elimination technology

MICRO Waterjet is the ideal process for

  • prototypes and small, high precision components
  • one-offs and short-run production parts

Advantages of MICRO Waterjet

  • Cut virtually any material, metal or non-metal, including stainless steel, hastelloy, titanium, Inconel, exotic metals, ceramics, plastics and glass as well as advanced composite materials, including metal matrix and sandwiched composites
  • Cut any complex shape, including holes, in one process, eliminating secondary operations
  • No heat affected zone (HAZ) that can cause distortion or edge hardening offering solutions where laser and Wire EDM are contraindicated
  • Taper-free, satin smooth cut edge, comparable to Wire EDM
  • Tolerances of .001” (0.02mm) dependent on material and thickness
  • Narrow kerf width of .015” (.38mm)
  • No, or minimal, secondary operations required
  • Minimal or no burr
  • Innovative process for prototype production
  • Optimal material usage
  • Quick turnaround / "just in time"
  • Cost effective
  • Environmentally friendly

Conventional Waterjet Cutting

Our conventional waterjet machine, equipped with a “dynamic cutting head” to eliminate taper, is capable of taking on tough jobs on materials such as titanium, stainless, AR400, inconel and hardened tool steels as well as ceramics, composites, carbon fibre, plastics, and glass, all while holding tolerances of +/- .005” (.13mm). This machine allows us to maintain our quick turnaround and serves a wide range of industries.
